Takoma Park Woman Charged with Neglect of Her 3 Young Children

Josiane Kameni Sahok, 32 of Takoma Park, was charged with three counts of child neglect.

On March 21 at 11:50 a.m., Takoma Park Police responded to the 1100 block of Linden Avenue after receiving a report of child neglect from a UPS delivery driver. According to police, the door was opened by a toddler when the driver delivered a package. Another toddler was crying.

The driver called out for an adult and then contacted police.

When police arrived, no adults were present, and the apartment was unsanitary. The two children were “visibly upset,” police said.

Police purchased diapers for the children and cleaned them up. While the officers were in the apartment, Sahok arrived with a five-year-old. Police believe the toddlers were alone for several hours.

Police let Sahok know about resources available for food and other assistance and notified Child Protective Services.

On April 12 at 2 p.m., the officers went to the same apartment after being told by a construction worker that a small child had fallen from a third-story window. The child was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. That child was one police had assisted the previous month.

On April 13, police returned to the apartment, which they said was still in an unsanitary condition and lacking food for the children.

The officers charged Sahok with child neglect and arrested her on April 18. Child Protective Services took custody of the three young children.
