During a press conference Monday at the team’s headquarters in Ashburn, Va, Commanders team owner Josh Harris confirmed that the franchise would keep their current nickname. There had been speculation – and hope in some circles – that the team might change their name again due to unpopularity by some of the fans.
When asked by an AP reporter “Is it safe to say the Commanders name is around to stay?” Harris said “yes.” “I think it’s now being embraced by our team, by our culture, our coaching staff and so…we’re going with that,” Harris added.
Harris, a Montgomery County native, is also managing partner of the NBA’s Philadelphia 76ers, the NHL’s New Jersey Devils and general partner of Crystal Palace of English Premier League.
