A 19-year-old Potomac man was sentenced to nine years in prison for a June 10 armed carjacking incident in Bethesda.
Herbert Randall also was sentenced to five years of supervised probation after he is released from prison on charges of armed carjacking and use of a firearm, which was a ghost gun, in the commission of a violent crime. Randall pleaded guilty in November to both counts.
Montgomery County Circuit Court Judge Christopher Fogelman recommended that Randall be admitted in the Patuxent Youthful Offenders Program while in prison, where he will receive services.
The legal fate of three other defendants is being handled in juvenile court.
According to the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office, on June 10 at 11 p.m., Montgomery County police responded to a county parking garage at 4935 Saint Elmo Avenue in Bethesda. There they found a male and female victim.
The two victims had walked to the second floor of the garage after eating dinner in a nearby restaurant. They headed to a red 2022 Hyundai Elantra, which was registered to a friend of one of the victims. The victims saw a group of four people standing near the vehicle, all of whom had their faces concealed.
When the driver got to the car door, a suspect pointed a black handgun at his chest. Both victim’s saw a laser pointed at the driver. The suspect demanded the car keys, and the victim handed them over. At that point, the female exited the car, according to the state’s attorney’s office.
The suspect with the gun entered the driver’s seat and the other three suspects entered the car, which they then drove out of the garage toward Cordell Avenue.
