The outer loop of I-495 was temporarily closed overnight between Georgia and Connecticut Avenues due to multiple collisions involving four tractor-trailers around midnight.
At around 2 a.m. Thursday, the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue hazmat team and the Maryland Department of the Environment were on the scene of one of the collisions—a sideways trailer on the sky ramp over I-270 Spur. The driver was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. During the incident, fuel and wood were spilled onto the road.
Maryland State Police, Maryland Highway Administration and MCFRS Emergency Medical and Integrated Healthcare Services were also on the scene.
The accidents have since been cleared up and all lanes have reopened.
