Montgomery County COVID-19 Statistics for May 19

The Maryland Department of Health reported 29 new COVID-19 cases in Montgomery County Wednesday morning. The county’s cumulative case count is 70,585.

Montgomery County recorded one new coronavirus-related fatality Wednesday, so the death toll climbs to 1,491 which is the highest in the state.

As of May 9, there were 75 patients hospitalized with COVID-19 in Montgomery County.

Maryland Department of Health released new data on schools in the state with two of more COVID-19 cases on Wednesday. There are 22 schools in Maryland reporting two or more COVID-19 cases. Of those 22 schools, one is located in Montgomery County. Quince Orchard High School in Gaithersburg reports 2 cases.

The county has a rate of 1.29% for positive COVID-19 tests completed Tuesday, which is a decrease of 0.08 from Monday’s rate of 1.37%. The county’s positivity rate is lower than 23 of the other 24 jurisdictions in Maryland.

With 1,491 fatalities, Montgomery County leads the state in total COVID-19 related fatalities but not in total cases. Prince George’s County has the most coronavirus cases in the state with 84,561 cases and 1,459 fatalities. Baltimore County has the third most cases and the second-highest number of fatalities in the state with 65,084 cases and  1,479 fatalities.

Somerset County located on Maryland’s Eastern Shore has the most cases per capita with 100.8 cases per 1,000 residents. Allegany County in the western region of the state has the second-highest cases per capita at 98.8 cases per 1,000 residents.

 

Maryland COVID-19 Statistics for May 19

Wednesday the state recorded 337 new infections bringing the state’s cumulative case count to 456,765.

There are currently 585 patients hospitalized for COVID-19 across the state as of Wednesday morning. Since April the number of patients hospitalized has been steadily declining and has been below 700 since May 15.

12 newly reported deaths were recorded Wednesday, bringing the state death toll to 8,766.

The state reported  2.19% of tests completed Tuesday were positive for COVID-19. This is a decrease of 0.04 from Monday’s rate of 2.23%.
