The Mid-Atlantic Jazz Festival will celebrate big bands in three days of performances Friday to Sunday in Rockville. The festival is hosted by the non-profit Jazz Academy of Music.
The annual Presidents Day weekend festival is bringing together bands of all shapes and sizes sizes: quartets, college ensembles and professional collectives.
There are five stages with performances running simultaneously, with two stages free to view. Paid-stage tickets range from $25 to $85. The festival also offers line and swing dancing, a midnight jam session and masterclasses.
The University of Maryland, West Virginia University and Temple University jazz ensembles are all set to play on the main stage Saturday. Joining the stage will also be the grammy-winning artists Lisa Fischer with Orrin Evan and Captain Black Big Band.
Other artists include drummer Herlin Riley, musician Warren Wolf and grammy-nominated jazz singer René Marie.
