Clarksburg Elementary School #9 may soon have a permanent name.
Members of the Montgomery County Public Schools Board of Education unanimously recommended a school naming committee of representatives from the school and other interested parties consider making the school’s permanent name Maya Angelou, Cabin Branch or TenMile Creek.
The committee can choose one of those names or suggest up to two others. The BOE has the final say.
The school is expected to open in September.
Maya Angelou is an author who wrote numerous books and poems, including, “I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings.” Cabin Branch is an area in Clarksburg, and TenMile Creek is a tributary stream of Little Seneca Creek.
The Clarksburg Master Plan includes about 15,000 homes. Because of the new construction, several schools were built. This is the sixth. It is expected to have about 720 students beginning with the 2023-24 school year.
