Montgomery County COVID-19 Statistics for Jan. 28
The Maryland Department of Health reported 326 new COVID-19 cases in Montgomery County Thursday morning. The county’s cumulative case count is currently 58,011.
Montgomery County recorded two new coronavirus-related fatalities Thursday, bringing the death toll to 1,250.
The county has a rolling seven-day average of 5.63% for positive COVID-19 tests, which is a decrease of 0.28 from Wednesday’s average rate of 5.91%. The positivity rate continues to drop and for the second straight day, the rate is below 6%. Only three jurisdictions in Maryland — Baltimore City, Baltimore County, and Kent County — have a lower rate.
With 1,250 COVID-19 related fatalities, Montgomery County leads the state in fatalities but not in total cases. Prince George’s County has the most coronavirus cases in the state with 66,888 cases and 1,191 fatalities.
Allegany County in the western region of the state has the most cases per capita at 87.1 cases per 1,000 residents. Somerset County located on Maryland’s Eastern Shore has the second-highest per capita cases with 86.7 cases per 1,000 residents.

Thursday the state recorded 2,190 new infections. The state’s cumulative case count is now 348,749.
There are 1,636 patients hospitalized for COVID-19 across the state as of Thursday morning. The number of hospitalizations continues to drop from the Jan. 11 pandemic high of 1,957.
Thursday the state recorded 40 newly reported deaths, bringing the state death toll to 6,861.
The state reported a rolling seven-day average of 6.15% for positive COVID-19 tests Thursday. This is a decrease of 0.23 from Wednesday’s rate of 6.38%.
