Montgomery County COVID-19 Statistics
The Maryland Department of Health reported 177 new COVID-19 cases in Montgomery County Thursday morning. The county’s cumulative case count is now 28,146.
The county has a rolling seven-day average of 4.33% for positive COVID-19 tests, which is a drop of 0.16 from Wednesday’s average rate of 4.49. The county’s positivity rate is less than 17 of the 24 jurisdictions in Maryland
Montgomery County’s death toll rose to 860 with two new fatalities reported Thursday. The county leads the state in total COVID-19 related fatalities. Prince Georges County has the most coronavirus cases in the state with 35,336, but their death toll is 854, six less than Montgomery.
County and state health officials are monitoring the recent spike in COVID-19 cases closely.
County Executive Mark Elrich introduced an executive order on Wednesday, Nov. 4 to reduce gathering sizes from 50 to 25 people and capacity reduction from 25 percent or 25 people, whichever is lower, for bowling venues and for such services as hair salons, barbershops, massage and nail salons. Escape room businesses may reopen at a capacity limit of six people. The County Council held public hearings and voted unanimously to enact the executive order at their Council meeting Tuesday, Nov. 10. The new restrictions were effective Tuesday at 5 p.m.
Maryland COVID-19 Statistics
Thursday the state recorded 1,477 new infections, bringing its cumulative total to 159,900. This is the ninth straight day the state recorded more than a thousand daily new cases.
Twelve new deaths were reported Thursday, bringing the state death toll to 4,112.
The state reported a rolling seven-day average of 5.65% for positive COVID-19 tests Thursday. This is a slight increase from Wednesday’s rate of 5.6.
