As the county and the state of Maryland move forward with their plans for Vision Zero – reducing pedestrian and cycling deaths to zero – they run into resistance from local residents. That was the case with Old Georgetown Road where the state Department of Transportation reduced car lanes north and south in favor of designated bike lanes. Neighbors were quick to register their frustrations with the restrictions on roads they travel on a regular basis.
While the state solicited community feedback, as of the end of 2023, their follow-up report scheduled for late summer has yet to appear.
