Toys for Tots in Danger of Being Canceled This Year

The Montgomery County chapter of Toys for Tots may have to cancel this year’s toy drive.

According to Elizabeth Scott, the Montgomery County coordinator for the program, the storage facility previously used to store thousands of gifts is currently under construction. Scott, who has been looking for a replacement since June, has been unable to find one.

Despite reaching out to several businesses, she has faced rejection every time. If the organization can’t find a suitable space by October, Scott says it will leave thousands of needy children without toys this holiday season.

Toys for Tots, a charitable program run by the United States Marine Corps, has served millions of children for decades. Last year, the Montgomery County chapter distributed approximately 44,000 toys to over 20,000 children across the county.

Montgomery County residents are encouraged to reach out if they can either provide a space, or know someone who can. You can contact the local Toys for Tots chapter by either emailing germantown.md@toysfortots.org or calling 240-992-9862.
