In February, Councilmember Will Jawando introduced a bill to address the racial inequities in traffic stops. Bill 12-23 known as the Safety and Traffic Equity in Policing (STEP) Act was on the agenda at the Tuesday, April 25 evening meeting before the County Council.
In addition to the testimony of concerned citizens, Dr. Earl Stoddard, Director of Emergency Management and Homeland Security, cited objections raised by the County Executive. He took issue with the challenges posed by tinted windows and the impact of relaxing law enforcement of car insurance requirements.
