The National Capital Region Transportation Planning Board approved three projects aimed at improving road safety in Montgomery County.
The City of Gaithersburg was awarded $60,000 to develop a local road safety plan that would guide safety improvements along roadways throughout Gaithersburg.
Montgomery County received $80,000 for preliminary engineering designs of safety improvements on Bel Pre Road, which is a four-lane road with a history of serious injuries and fatal crashes.
The City of Rockville received $40,000 to develop guidelines so that staff could better identify and implement pedestrian crossing treatments.
Funding priorities for the program include safety improvements in low-income and minority communities, improving road user behavior, greater understanding of safety data and cross-jurisdictional safety improvements.
