Transportation Department to Offer Bike, E-Scooter Classes

Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) will offer adult bike and e-scooter classes, according to a release.

Bike Classes

The Washington Area Bicyclist Association (WABA) instructors will teach attendees how to ride a bike and the basic skills.

The bike classes are open to residents over 18, costing $10 to participate, and advanced registration online is required since classes are limited to 25 people per the release.

There will be two types of classes: Adult Learn to Ride Bike Class and Adult Basic Skills Bike Class. Participants will be provided bikes and helmets for the Learn to Ride Bike Class, which can be rented from the WABA for a fee for the Basic Skills Bike Class.

The following schedule is for the Adult Learn to Ride Bike Class:

  • On Nov. 3 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Farm Women’s Market, Lot 24, on 4601 Leland Street in Bethesda
  • On Nov. 9 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Margaret Schweinhaut Senior Center on 1000 Forest Glen Road in Silver Spring.

The following schedule is for the Adult Basic Skills Bike Class:

  • On Nov. 2 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Burtonsville Park & Ride Lot on 387 National Drive in Burtonsville.

E-Scooter Class

MCDOT will offer a two-hour free e-scooter class on Oct. 27 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Westfield Montgomery mall’s former Sears parking lot on 7107 Democracy Boulevard in Bethesda.

The release said the class is a drop-in event and people over 18 with a valid ID can participate. Scooters will be provided free of charge per the release.

Rain dates for bike and e-scooter classes will be exactly two weeks after the original schedule.
