Parts of Montgomery County were under a Flood Warning and Severe Thunderstorm Warning on Thursday.
Several homes were damaged by fallen trees and cars were disabled in high waters during afternoon storms, according to Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service (MCFRS) Chief Spokesperson Pete Piringer. Trees struck several homes in the 1200 block of Downs Drive in White Oak, resulting in damage but no reported injuries, Piringer wrote on Twitter. Wires also came down and power was out in the area.
There was localized flooding on East West Highway in the Brookville Road area in Chevy Chase. A tree also came down on an unoccupied vehicle in the 7000 block of Brookville Road, Piringer said. Wires were down and some lanes were blocked.
Around 4:50 p.m., MCFRS responded for several vehicles stranded in high water on Goldsboro Road near Massachusetts Avenue in Bethesda. No one was in distress or injured, Piringer reported. Goldsboro Road was closed between Massachusetts Avenue and River Road.
The high water receded as of 5:15 p.m. but some vehicles remained after all occupants self-rescued.
During storms last Friday, May 27, it was confirmed that an EF-O tornado with winds estimated at 80 mph occurred in Olney.
