Police said a Maryland state trooper was hospitalized after he was struck by a driver “suspected of impairment” while inside his patrol vehicle in Montgomery County.
Around 4:30 a.m. Monday, troopers responded to the I-495 inner loop at University Boulevard for the crash in a work zone area, per a release from the Maryland State Police Department. According to police, a driver went into the construction zone and hit the rear of a state police patrol vehicle, which the trooper was inside of during the crash.
The trooper was working traffic control in the work zone and had his emergency lights on, per police. He was taken to a trauma hospital.
The driver, identified as Anthony Bowser, 31, of Washington, D.C, was taken to a hospital. He was driving a Mercedes SUV.
“Charges are pending the outcome of the investigation and consultation with the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office,” per Monday’s release.
