A truck driver rammed into a bank on University Avenue in Takoma Park on Nov. 3 and then fled the scene in the truck, according to Takoma Park Police.
Police responded to the Capital One Bank at 9 a.m. after learning that an ATM technician who was inside the bank at the time of the collision had contacted corporate security about the crash. Corporate security provided video of the incident to police.
The truck crashed through the doors, and then the driver backed the truck up and out of the bank, according to police. No one was observed getting out of the truck while it was inside the bank, but a passenger fled on foot once the truck had driven away. The driver also fled the scene but remained with the truck.
A witness provided police with the truck’s tag number, and it was located near that address, police said.
The owner was issued traffic citations related to hit and run.
According to police, the bank incurred about $50,000 in damages.
