Tuesday: High Heat, Unhealthy Air and Wednesday: Even Hotter

It will be hot Tuesday and even hotter Wednesday. Temperatures Tuesday are expected to reach 90 degrees and near 100 on Wednesday.

According to the Maryland Department of the Environment, high pressure across southeastern United States will push temperatures well above season norms Tuesday and to near record warmth Wednesday.

Lower Montgomery County and Washington, D.C. are under a Code Orange alert, meaning the air is unhealthy for older people, children, teenagers, those who are active outdoors and those with lung diseases and asthma, according to the National Weather Service.

The Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments advises residents to:

    • Avoid lawn mowing or use an electric mower
    • Use gas or electric grills instead of charcoal
    • Fill your vehicles’ gas tank after sunset
    • Take transit, carpool or work from home
    • Turn off lights and electronics when not in use and follow tips from your electric utility about how to use less electricity to cool your home.
