A house fire in Gaithersburg early Sunday morning left a family of five and their pets displaced, according to Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) Chief Spokesperson Pete Piringer.
MCFRS responded to a two-story home on the 19500 block of Framingham Drive at around 5:15 a.m. Smoke alarms alerted the family of two adults and three children who were able to escape the home with their five pets, Piringer said in a tweet.
The fire resulted from an unattended candle burning in a bedroom on the second floor, Piringer shared. Although there were no injuries, damage to the structure of the building and belongings is estimated to be about $35,000.
Firefighters took part in the After-the-Fire safety initiative returning to the neighborhood Sunday at 4 p.m. to check smoke alarms and talk about fire safety with residents.
