A fatal collision early Monday morning on New Hampshire Avenue at Glenside Drive remains under active investigation by the Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU). MCPD has identified the person found deceased at the scene as 71-year-old Christina E. Thomas of an unknown address.
Takoma Park Police and Fire and Rescue were first to arrive at the location at around midnight Monday morning. A gray 2006 Nissan Pathfinder was headed south on New Hampshire Avenue, when for reasons still not known, it left the road and crashed through a bus shelter before stopping in a nearby wooded area. The driver remained at the scene.
Officers found the injured adult woman who was pronounced dead at the scene. According to a press release by the police, it remains unclear if she was at the bus stop or somewhere else when she was hit.
