Upper Marlboro Man Arrested on Gun, Drug Charges

Gregory Neverson, 20, of Upper Marlboro, was arrested and charged with illegal possession of a stolen handgun and possession with intent to distribute cannabis.

On March 30 at 2:45 p.m., Montgomery County Police officers on bicycle patrol were at the Wheaton Metro Station when they smelled marijuana and saw a man smoking in public. Neverson handed over the marijuana cigarette and a bag containing what is believed to be marijuana, according to police.

Neverson consented to a search, which was how police found a handgun in his jacket pocket.

Neverson began to resist arrest and ran away with the handgun. He headed toward the rear of apartments in the 11100 block of Georgia Avenue, according to police. A concerned resident saw Neverson running away and told police where the suspect was hiding.

Police located him behind a generator underneath two discarded mattresses. He was taken into custody.

Police searched the area and found a Walther PDP 9mm handgun with a loaded magazine, which police learned had been stolen in February. Police also discovered that Neverson is prohibited from owning or possessing a firearm.

Officers also found what they believed was marijuana in Neverson’s backpack as well as a digital scale.

He is being held without bond.
