Van Hollen Calls Out Trump for Comments on Airline Crash

During a press briefing at the White House Thursday morning, President Trump blamed the Biden and Obama administrations, Pete Buttiegieg and diversity initiatives for the Wednesday night crash near Reagan National Airport that took the lives of 67 people reportedly.

“A group within the FAA determined that the workforce was too white then they had concerted efforts to get the administration to change that and to change it immediately. This was in the Obama administration,” Trump said.

When questioned by a reporter why he is blaming diversity initiatives for the crash without proof, the President said “Because I have common sense okay and unfortunately, a lot of people don’t.”

After the briefing, Senator Chris Van Hollen, who previously represented Maryland’s 8th District (Montgomery County) when he served in the House, posted on X and Bluesky:

“We’ve just experienced a great tragedy, and the President of the United States has already rushed to politicize it — jumping to outrageous conclusions and undermining ongoing investigations. His comments were grotesque and outrageous and he owes the American people an apology.”
