The trial of an 18-year-old who was charged for allegedly planning a school shooting has concluded.
The judge is scheduled to issue a verdict Dec. 30, according to the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office. The defense opted for a bench trial, so there was no jury.
Alex Ye was charged with threat of mass violence this year while he was a Wootton High School student. He wrote a 129-page manifesto about targeting his former elementary school and strategizing how to access classrooms at Wootton, according to police earlier this year.
Ye was taking online classes and accessing school staff remotely, and was not physically present at school since fall 2022. According to police, FBI agents interviewed Wootton staff in March, and a school counselor said Ye made statements about committing a school shooting every time they spoke, and he was fixated on it. He was arrested in April.
