Voters Invited to Engage in 2024 Candidate Debates and Town Halls

As the 2024 election season heats up, several candidate forums are scheduled to give voters an opportunity to hear directly from those running for office. These forums, which include debates and town halls, will cover a range of topics relevant to local, state, and national races.

Here’s a list of upcoming opportunities to hear from the candidates:


1. Board of Education Candidate Forum
Date: Wednesday, October 9
Time: 7:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.
Location: Rockville
Host: League of Women Voters
Moderator: Tonia Bui
This forum, co-sponsored by several organizations, will focus on candidates for the Montgomery County Board of Education. A recording of the forum will be available afterward on YouTube.


2. Board of Education Candidate Forum
Date: Sunday, October 13
Time: 7:30 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.
Location: Congregation Beth El, Bethesda
Moderator: Guila Franklin Siegel, JCRC Chief Operating Officer
Candidates Brenda Diaz and Natalie Zimmerman (District 2), Shebra Evans and Laura Stewart (District 4), and Lynne Harris and Rita Montoya (At-large) will discuss issues important to Jewish students, parents, and allies. Attendees can submit questions in advance.

3. U.S. Senate Candidates Televised Debate
Date: Thursday, October 10
Time: 7:00 p.m.
Location: Broadcast on MPT-HD and live-streamed at mpt.org/vote2024
Moderator: Chuck Todd, NBC News Chief Political Analyst
Candidates Angela Alsobrooks (D) and Larry Hogan (R) will participate in a one-hour televised debate hosted by Maryland Public Television. The debate will air statewide and will have encore broadcasts and live-stream options, including on C-SPAN and local NBC affiliates in Baltimore and Washington, D.C.


4. District 6 Town Hall
Date: Sunday, October 20
Time: 10:00 a.m.
Location: Shaare Torah, Gaithersburg
Candidates April McClain Delaney (D) and Neil Parrott (R), nominees for Maryland’s 6th Congressional District, will hold back-to-back town halls, discussing key issues such as U.S.-Israel relations and combating antisemitism. The town hall will begin with McClain Delaney at 10:00 a.m., followed by Parrott at 11:00 a.m. Attendees can submit questions in advance.
