The Montgomery County Board of Elections has encouraged all eligible voters to cast mail-in ballots due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The deadline to submit a completed application of the ballot is Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2020.
Registered voters can either vote by mail or in person. The Board stated in a press release that voting by mail is a safe and secure way of voting. Any registered voter who is looking to vote by mail must apply for a ballot for the Presidential general election.
Here are the four ways to apply for a vote by mail ballot:
- Text the letters VBM to 77788.
- Visit www.777vote.org and select Vote by Mail. Follow the instructions for completing the application which may be mailed, faxed (240-777-8560) or e-mailed to absentee@montgomerycountymd.gov to the Board of Elections.
- Visit https://voterservices.elections.maryland.gov/OnlineVoterRegistration/InstructionsStep1 to complete an online application. You must have a valid Maryland Driver’s License or Motor Vehicle Administration issued ID and enter your name and date of birth exactly as reflected in the voter registration database in order to use this method. Follow the prompts to complete and submit your application.
- You may apply in person at the Montgomery County Board of Elections – 18753 N. Frederick Avenue, Suite 210, Gaithersburg, MD 20879 – between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. To obtain an application for another person, please call 240-777-8500 for detailed information.
Requested mail ballots must be returned through the U.S. Postal Service or by dropping it in an official dropbox. After the deadline, voters can only apply for a mail-in ballot in person at the Board of Elections office. They can also apply during Early Voting, which is happening October 26 through November 3, from 7 a.m. through 8 p.m.
