The Washington Wizards are teaming up with Montgomery County Public Libraries (MCPL) to increase winter readership with “Active Bodies, Active Minds.” According to a press release, the challenge will run from Dec. 21 until March 16, 2025.
The challenge’s goal is to encourage reading by children from birth to 18 years old. Participants will receive a bingo card where they can track their progress. Those older than 18 can participate as well, with MCPL holding a “reading marathon” where they urge adults to read for 26.2 hours.
Those who complete the challenge will receive a car magnet and a chance at the prize back. You can sign up for the Youth Winter Reading Challenge here, and the Adult Winter Reading Challenge here. Registration will open on Dec. 21.
MCPL will celebrate the start of the challenge on Saturday, Dec. 28 from 3:30 to 5 p.m. The event will be held at the Wheaton Community Recreation Center. You can learn more about the event here.
