WATCH: NASA Live Broadcast of the April 8 Total Solar Eclipse

On Monday, April 8, a total solar eclipse will occur across North America. NASA will broadcast the event live from 1 to 4 p.m. ET. During the broadcast, experts will provide insights, and viewers will have the opportunity to see telescope views of the eclipse from various locations along its path. Viewers can submit questions during the broadcast using #askNASA.

A total solar eclipse happens when the Moon moves between the Sun and Earth, completely obscuring the Sun’s face. During the event, the sky will darken, resembling dawn or dusk. Although Maryland is not in the path of totality, the area will experience a 90% eclipse.

It’s important to not look directly at the Sun without proper eye protection. Even short periods may damage one’s eyes. Experts advise using indirect viewing methods, such as pinhole projectors, to safely observe the eclipse. NASA offers detailed guidance on how to view the eclipse safely here.
