Ways to Celebrate Earth Day

As the weather gets warmer and the outdoors becomes enjoyable again here are a few ways to celebrate Mother Nature leading up to Earth Day.

Takoma Park Earth Day Celebration

The City of Takoma Park hosts an Earth Day Celebration focused on teaching the public on sustainability on Saturday, April 20. The celebration will feature a variety of activities from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Including face painting, snow cones, art activities, a guided tree walk and resources on environmental involvement opportunities. The event will be at Sligo Creek Stream Valley Park.

Gaithersburg Environmental Film Day

Arts Barn will host a mini film festival of three documentary shorts by Fourth Wall Films on Saturday, April 20. The films focus on environmental issues and will be accompanied by an interview and short Q&A.  Emmy nominated filmmakers Kelly and Tammy Rundle will showcase their new film “Moved By Waters” about activists in the Upper Mississippi Watershed area. The event will run from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. Registration is encouraged.

Earth Day Tree Planting

Volunteers will be planting 60 trees in Stewartown Local Park in Gaithersburg. The event will take place on Earth Day, April 22 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The event is part of the Montgomery Parks Urban Forestry Parks Patch program. The program takes care of small forested patches in urban areas. Find more information and register to volunteer here.
