‘Wear Orange’ Gathering in Wheaton to Honor Gun Violence Survivors

Montgomery County Moms Demand Action for Wear Orange 2024 will gather at Wheaton Regional Park to honor gun violence survivors Saturday at 11 a.m.

After meeting at the park on Shorefield Road, participants will walk “to spread the message of gun violence awareness and change in our community,” the mothers wrote in a news release.

The day is part of a national effort, and 16 events will be happening throughout Maryland, in partnership with Everytown for Gun Safety Support Fund.

Garrett Park, Poolesville, Chevy Chase and North Chevy Chase issued proclamations declaring Friday as Gun Violence Awareness Day.

In Baltimore, several buildings and skylines will turn orange on Friday and Saturday.

Wear Orange originated on June 2, 2015 on what would have been Hadiya Pendleton’s 18th birthday. Pendleton was shot and killed on a playground in Chicago when she was 15 years old. Her friends wear orange in her memory.
