After a week-long back and forth between Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan and County Health Officer Dr. Travis Gayles over whether or not nonpublic schools could reopen, Gayles ultimately rescinded his directive to keep private schools closed through Oct. 1.
So now, private schools in Montgomery County can determine how and when they reopen. If schools do reopen for in-person learning, what happens if a student, teacher, or staff member contracts the coronavirus?
MyMCMedia spoke to Dr. Katherine Feldman, the chief public health scientist who heads Maryland Health Department’s contact tracing efforts, about how contact tracing efforts work when it comes to schools.
MyMCMedia also asked Feldman what parents should consider when deciding whether to send their children to in-person learning if they have that option come fall. Here’s what she had to say:
