What’s Closed, What’s Open After Wednesday’s Winter Weather?

Wednesday’s winter storm that left a wintry mix of snow and ice in the area is causing closings and delays across the county.

The Maryland State Police’s snow emergency plan is currently in place for interstates 270, 370, and the beltway in Montgomery County. This means travel on the interstates is strongly discouraged. Also, parking on roads and streets designated as snow emergency routes is prohibited.

Federal agencies in the Washington, D.C. area are open. Employees have the option to take unscheduled leave or telework if they don’t currently do so.

Maryland State government employees working the day shift may take liberal leave. Emergency essential employees are expected to report to work as scheduled.

Montgomery County Public Schools virtual learning starts on time, childcare in the schools and all in-person activities and appointments are delayed until 11:30 a.m. Offices will open on time. There is no scheduled meal distribution on Thursday.

The Johns Hopkins University is opening at 10 a.m.
