Wheaton Advisory Committee to Host ‘Supporting Youth in Crisis’ Town Hall

The Wheaton Urban District Advisory Committee is hosting its second “Supporting Youth in Crisis” town hall from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m on Tuesday at the Wheaton Community Recreation Center.

The community conversation event plans to address the progress of new initiatives regarding addiction, violence and mental health affecting adolescents and young adults.

County Executive Marc Elrich will discuss County leaders’ next steps in addressing the effects of substance use on youth. Other speakers include County health officer Kisha Davis, Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) pupil personnel and attendance services director Steve Neff, and Identity, Inc. program director Nora Morales.

The town hall will feature strategies and insights from mental health professionals and community partners and a question-and-answer session to foster community member engagement, as well as tables providing information on Mental Health Services, Youth Services and Harm Reduction and Prevention.

The Wheaton Community Recreation Center is located at 11701 Georgia Avenue in Silver Spring. Registration is recommended. Register here.

“Addressing youth violence, substance use and mental health is a top priority for me and for all of County Government,” said County Executive Elrich in a press release. “I understand the desperation families feel when their children are in need, and we recognize there is much more work to be done.  This effort needs a united effort from businesses, community organizations, schools, families and government. Through community conversations like this we can work together to protect our loved ones and build a safer, healthier Montgomery County.”
