Where To Celebrate National Night Out Against Crime on Aug. 6

Block parties, cookouts, safety demonstrations, seminars, and visits from emergency personnel will bring residents, law enforcement agencies, local officials, civic groups, and neighborhood organizations together to fight back against crime.

National Night Out (NNO) Against Crime is an annual event celebrated by millions of people across the United States that focuses on enhancing the relationship between law enforcement and communities.

Here’s how to celebrate National Night Out, which will be held this year on Tuesday, August 6 in Montgomery County:

Downtown Silver Spring

Montgomery County Police Department and Downtown Silver spring host this free family event that features DJ and dancing with prizes from local restaurants, free child ID cards, refreshments from Nando’s Peri-Peri and Fantasticks, and kids’ activities.  The event will run from 5 to 8 p.m. at Ellsworth Plaza.

Takoma Park

The Takoma Park Police Department will host a free event that features a moon bounce, face painting, games and prizes, food and ice cream. The event will run from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at 7510 Maple Avenue in front of Piney Branch Elementary School. There will also be child ID kits and fingerprinting available.

Rockville

Participating neighborhoods will host their own block parties. The Rockville Mayor and Council, Rockville City Police officers and member of the County State’s Attorney’s Office will visit many of the block parties.

Children and families also should be on the lookout for a visit by McGruff the Crime Dog, he is expected to spread his anti-crime and anti-drug message.

Gaithersburg

There are numerous events planned in the City of Gaithersburg neighborhoods to celebrate National Night Out that begin as early as 4 p.m.

Casey Community Center from 6 – 8 p.m. with activities for the whole family. Explore police cruisers and learn about a wide range of safety topics while enjoying a DJ, line dancing demonstrations, acoustic melodies, crafts, games and giveaways. This year’s event includes a  community resource fair with agencies that provide services ranging from health screenings, financial and housing advice, plus food assistance, educational and literary resources, and more.

Neighborhood Block Parties

Bennington from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. Social event located on the large grassy area bordered by Longdraft Rd., Wade Ct., Oak Shade, and East Darby Ct.

Kentlands/Lakelands from 6 – 8:30 p.m. Family fun activities for all ages at the Clubhouse, 485 Tschiffely Square Rd.

Montgomery Meadows from 5 – 8 p.m. Social event at the pavilion at Travis Park, 391 Travis Ave.

Saybrooke from 4 – 7 p.m. Social event at the pool on Saybrooke Oaks Blvd.

Germantown

The Upcounty Hub will host a free event that features safety demonstrations and informational booths, fun family activities, live entertainment and music, food and refreshments. The event takes place at Montogmery College Germantown Campus, 20200 Observation Drive from 6 to 8 p.m.

Montgomery County Police

Montgomery County Police will participate in numerous events this year. The following are open to the public:

First District Rockville

  1. College Garden Park, 615 College Pkwy.; 6 to 8 p.m.
  2. Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, 608 N. Horners Ln., Rockville; 6 to 8 p.m.

Second District Bethesda

  1. Kensington Park Senior Living, 3620 Littledale Rd.; from 5 to 7 p.m.
  2. Gwendowlyn Coffield Community Center, 2450 Lytytonsville Rd.; from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
  3. Downtown Bethesda, Norfolk Ave. and St. Elmo Ave.; from 6 to 8 p.m.

Third District Silver Spring

  3. Great Hope Homes at 1081 Good Hope Dr.; from 5 to 7 p.m.

Fifth District Germantown/Clarksburg
