‘Where You Belong’ Initiative Celebrates National Park and Recreation Month

July is National Park and Recreation Month. Montgomery County Recreation is partaking in a month-long celebration by the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) initiative.

This year’s theme, Where You Belong, honors how park and recreation professionals can foster a sense of belonging within communities nationwide. The county will also observe National Park and Recreation Professionals Day on July 19.

“National Park and Recreation Month is a time for us to recognize and celebrate the vital role our parks and recreation programs play in fostering a sense of community and belonging,” County Executive Marc Elrich said in a press release. “Our Recreation team works tirelessly to provide inclusive and diverse opportunities that enhance the quality of life for all residents.”

Mongomery County Recreation has released a list of recommended activities for interested residents to engage with park spaces and programs, such as spending a Friday evening at Teens Night Out at Upper County Community Recreation Center or playing a drop-in game of youth futsal at Wheaton Community Recreation Center

“I encourage everyone to take part in the various activities and events planned throughout July and to appreciate the hard work of our dedicated recreation professionals,” Elrich said. This month is not just about enjoying our parks and programs, but about acknowledging the spaces and services that make Montgomery County a place where everyone truly belongs.”
