In mid-July about 50 local residents packed into the Memorial United Methodist Church in Poolesville to listen to a lecture about the history of ferries in the county. With the 4th anniversary of the closing of White’s Ferry only months away, it was a reminder of the economic importance of ferries to our county’s growth and prosperity.
MCM captured some of the highlights of the presentation.
The end of December will mark the beginning of the 5th year since the ferry was closed down. Insiders told MCM their neighbors across the river in Loudoun County may be exploring new ideas for cooperatively restoring ferry service. Given the long-term symbiosis outlined in the forum this could be a welcome development for residents on both sides of the Potomac.
