Steven Rales, a 72-year-old native of Bethesda, won the Academy Award for best live-action short film Sunday night.
Rales received the Oscar along with director Wes Anderson for “The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar,” an adaptation of the 1977 Roald Dahl short story of the same name. The short film features Benedict Cumberbatch, Ralph Fiennes, Dev Patel and Ben Kingsley.
The pair have been nominated twice before, but Sunday was each’s first win.
