Jermaine Williams, the new president of Montgomery College, promised to help students overcome the “inequities and injustices” that were exacerbated during the pandemic and enable them to become successful in the future.
“Higher education is the bridge to a family livable wage, social mobility and an engaged citizenry,” he said as he was introduced to staff, students and administration last week.
He currently is president of Nassau Community College in Garden City, New York, and has almost 20 years of experience in higher education. He replaces DeRionne Pollard, who left to become president of Nevada State College.
County Executive Marc Elrich congratulated Williams, noting, “Dr. Pollard left big shoes to fill and high expectations, but I am confident that Dr. Williams’ background gives him the foundation to take Montgomery College to new heights.”
He added, “I look forward to meeting and working with Dr. Williams on our shared goals of ensuring that higher education is obtainable, affordable, and most importantly, equitable to the residents of Montgomery County.”
Listen to Williams’ plans and priorities in his own words.
