Thanks to a generous community, an additional 44 winter coats were distributed beyond the 1,000 that were given out in January at Long Branch Community Recreation Center.
While 1,000 individuals of all ages received free coats last month, some people were turned away when there were no more coats available.
Besides donating coats, some county residents donated money. Those coordinating the event had $861 left over, according to Annie Tulkin, who helped coordinate the fundraiser.
Therefore, organizers purchased 44 more coats, which were delivered Tuesday to New Hampshire Estates and Rolling Terrace elementary school PTAs.
Although temperatures are expected to be in the high 70s Thursday, those receiving new coats could still get plenty of use from their new coats.
