Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police arrested 20-year-old Roniyah Thomas on March 13, charging her with attempted murder and attempted carjacking related to a February incident in Chevy Chase.

On February 4, police officers responded to a report of a shooting near the intersection of South Park Avenue and The Hills Plaza at approximately 7:42 p.m. When officers arrived, they found a male victim who was transported to a hospital with serious injuries.

Officers determined that the victim was standing outside of his gray 2023 Subaru when an armed suspect approached and demanded his car keys. When the victim resisted, the suspect shot him before running away from the scene.

Detectives identified Thomas as the suspect and a warrant for her arrest was issued on March 10. She was taken into custody at her home in District Heights on March 13.

Thomas has been charged with attempted murder, first-degree assault, and attempted carjacking. She is currently held at the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit, awaiting a bond hearing.
