
March 19 Update: In an update Wednesday, police identified the decedent as 51-year-old Melissa Thomas of Owings Mills in Baltimore County. After the crash, first responders found her in cardiac arrest. She was the only person in the car.
According to the Montgomery County Police Department, Thomas lost control of the car, hit a curb, left the road, and crashed into a tree. A witness stayed on the scene and provided information to investigators.
The investigation is ongoing. Police ask anyone with information to contact the police department’s Collision Reconstruction Unit at 240-773-6620.
Original: Police said a woman died after crashing into a tree in the Sandy Spring area on St. Patrick’s Day.
A woman driving a Honda Accord crashed into a tree on eastbound Ashton Road at New Hampshire Avenue close to 11 p.m. Monday, according to the Montgomery County Police Department. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said more information including the name of the decedent will be shared after notifying next of kin.
