A woman was shot in the leg during an “apparent” road rage incident on Interstate 270 in Frederick on Sunday night, Nov. 6.
The victim was driving alone in a dark blue Jeep Wrangler northbound on I-270 near the 26-mile marker when, around 7:45 p.m, the suspect vehicle driving behind her began flashing their high beams, according to a Maryland State Police (MSP) press release.
Shortly after, the suspect changed lanes to drive adjacent to the victim’s car, where they began firing shots at her car that struck her in the leg. The suspect continued to drive northbound on I-270 after the attack, according to the press release.
The victim was transported to the University of Maryland’s R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Medical Center in Baltimore, where she is receiving treatment for the gunshot wound and other injuries sustained in the incident, according to the press release.
I-270 northbound remains closed between Exit 22 (MD 109) and Exit 26 (MD 80) as the MSP conduct their investigation of the incident. Authorities have not reported any details on the suspect driver or vehicle, but found evidence indicating that multiple shots were fired.
State troopers from the Frederick barrack responded to the scene along with investigators from the MSP Criminal Enforcement Division and crime scene technicians from the Forensic Sciences Division, according to the press release.
Officials of the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) are assisting with detours for alternative routes to I-270.
Maryland State Police urge any possible witnesses or informants to contact the Frederick barrack at 301-600-4150. Callers may remain anonymous.
