Teresa Saavedra Woorman was sworn in Monday and now is a state delegate representing District 16.
She is a public information officer with Montgomery County government and was Marc Elrich’s campaign manager in his most recent run for county executive.
Woorman was chosen by the county Democratic Central Committee and approved by Gov. Wes Moore to fill the seat that was held until recently by Sara Love. Love now serves as senator for the same district.
After taking the oath, Woorman described herself as a childless cat owner. She was born in Mexico and is a University of Maryland graduate.
“I really appreciate your confidence in me,” she said, calling becoming a state delegate her second best honor. Her naturalization ceremony when she became a United States citizen was the first, she said.
