WSSC Assists Residents to Catch Up with Water Bills

WSSC Water’s “Get Current” program is helping customers catch up with their past due payments.

Through this program, Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission (WSSC) is offering amnesty the entire month of June. This will benefit many customers who can afford their bills, but maybe forgot to do so.

Eligible customers will have 100 percent of their late payment charges and turn-on fees waived. Bill credits will also be available for eligible customers. According to WSSC, about 87,000 accounts are past due and collective owe about $53 million. This includes their 1.9 million customers in Montgomery and Prince George’s counties.

“We are pleased to offer this temporary amnesty program as the financial impact of COVID-19, coupled with economic uncertainty caused by current inflationary pressures, requires bold action to help our customers in need,” said WSSC Water Commission Chair Fausto R. Bayonet. “We encourage eligible residential customers to take advantage of the financial benefits of this program before it ends and turnoffs resume July 1.”

Eligibility is based on Area Median Income Limits by household size. All residential water shutoffs are paused in June. The last day to apply for the program is June 30.
