WSSC Water is now accepting applications for its 2025 Commissioners’ Engineering Scholarship. The scholarship supports undergraduate and graduate engineering students, as well as high school seniors entering college engineering programs.
The scholarship offers $2,000 annually, renewable for up to four years, totaling $8,000. Winners also receive priority consideration for paid summer internships at WSSC Water.
The scholarship is open to students who reside in Montgomery or Prince George’s counties, WSSC Water’s service area. Applicants must enroll full-time in an accredited college or university to pursue a degree in civil engineering, electrical engineering, material science and engineering, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, or computer science/engineering.
Winners will be selected based on academic performance, an introductory video, an essay, and two reference letters. They must also submit an official transcript and proof of residency.
The scholarship program is named in honor of former commissioners Joyce Starks and Gene W. Counihan. It aims to assist students in furthering their engineering studies and inspire them to pursue careers in the water and water resource recovery industry.
WSSC will award two scholarships, one to a Prince George’s County resident and one to a Montgomery County resident. Winners are eligible for additional awards each year if they maintain residency and meet grade point average requirements.
The deadline to submit an application is Saturday, Feb. 15. For more information and to apply, visit wsscwater.com/scholarship.
