Zinnia in Silver Spring won the Beer Program of the Year Award from the Restaurant Association Metropolitan Washington (RAMW) at its 42nd annual RAMMYS Awards Gala. The modern American restaurant was recognized for the “quality, diversity, clarity and value of its beer program,” in addition to how it continually manages its staff in an innovative way, according to the RAMMYS program.
Hosted by the RAMW, the RAMMYS Awards Gala celebrates the outstanding talent and achievements of individuals and organizations within Washington, D.C.’s restaurant and food service community.
To win the Beer Program of the Year Award, Zinnia first had to secure a nomination. Any RAMW member in good standing who meets certain eligibility requirements may be nominated for a RAMMY by members, vendors and suppliers, restaurant owners, operators, staff and the general public. The selection process for the finalists and winners involved general public voting and an anonymous panel of volunteer judges, consisting of food and dining journalists, educators and food service industry professionals.
Zinnia first opened in 2021 in a location that was previously home to Mrs. K’s Tollhouse on Colesville Road in Silver Spring. The restaurant is a multi-concept space, including a beer garden, underground tavern, cafe and fine dining area.
Since its opening, the restaurant’s breakfast sandwiches have been honored in MoCo360’s Best of Bethesda 2024 list. Washingtonian Magazine also named Zinnia as having the best tavern garden in its 2022 Best of Summer list.
